These years, tourist visits to Mt. Bromo have been increasing, yet most of them only come for the sunrise and Mt. Bromo national park, while Tengger Village remains as a secondary destination or even unknown. It is mostly because the access to Tengger village has not been well-developed. This study aims to analyze the potential and development strategies on Tengger village as tourist access to Mt. Bromo from Malang of its driving and inhibiting factors. The data were analyzed using descriptive analysis method and force field analysis. The result shows the existence of Tengger village as a tourist destination through its unique custom and people which can serve as driving factors for its development by utilizing the geo-positioning-main tourist attraction where tourists have to access this village before reaching Mt. Bromo. Thus, efforts especially in developing and unearthing village potentials (culture, customs, and economy) need to be supported such as by holding cultural events in order to attract tourists and offering an intra-village tourism package in which allow them to not only visiting Mt. Bromo National Park but also enjoying other touristic destinations. In addition, cooperating with private companies (tourism agents) and related government institution (tourism department, and others) to hold as well as promote events to attract tourists to visit. Moreover, developing and improving the hospitality and managerial skills of village heads and officers are certainly aiding the development of Tengger village as a tourist destination. Furthermore, improving the language and communication skills of indigenous people (villagers) can definitely assist the development as they can be the local guides as well as sell local products to tourists in which certainly increasing local economy and industries.
